What’s In My Makeup Bag

What’s In My Makeup Bag

Disclaimer- I have combination skin, so this makeup is what I have found to work best for me over the years. I have always been obsessed with makeup. Drug stores are magical places because you can go in feeling sad and walk out being anyone you want to be with a little makeup, hair products, and nail polish. I am no makeup expert, but these are the products I have fallen in love with after a lot of trial and error. My skin always looks oily, but if I use too much mattifying product, it gets super dry and flakey. In addition, I do have big pores, blackheads, and some red spots from time to time. Below are the products in my everyday makeup bag.

Longchamp- Le Pliage Cosmetic Case, $55.00

This is my makeup bag. I bought it in Paris a few years ago, so it cost a bit less there than it does here, since I was in the country of manufacture. This makeup bag is super roomy and can easily be stuffed because of the fabric, which is good because you can never have too much makeup on hand. I also prefer my makeup bag to be black, so it doesn’t get too dirty. Shop my makeup bag here!

Dr. Brandt Skincare- Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer, $22.00

I start my routine by applying a small amount on my fingertips and rubbing this all over my face. Having really big pores and shiny skin, I feel like this primer smoothes out my skin nicely and gives me a nice mattifying finish without looking dry. Shop my primer here!

*This also comes in a mini size if you want to try it out first!*

Smashbox- Photo Finish Foundation Primer Pore Minimizing, $39.00

Yes, I use two primers. I love the Dr. Brandt for all over, but I use my Smashbox for where I think my pores look the biggest. I use my fingertips to massage it into my cheeks because that’s where I feel I need it most. Shop my primer here

*This also comes in a mini size if you want to try it out first!*

Nars- Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard, $30.00

I swear by this concealer. On days when i’m feeling really lazy, I will quickly dot this around my problematic areas (my red spots and under my eyes), blend it in, and run! I have it in the color “Custard” because I have a light to medium complexion (depending on the season), with a yellow undertone. One of the things I love most about this concealer, is that it’s creamy texture looks nice on my skin. I hate it when my concealer clings onto dry patches or problematic areas. I also love that it comes with an application wand, so that when i’m feeling really adventurous, I use this to contour. Beautyblender – Beautyblender micro.mini, $18.00 (comes with two of the minis) Shop here!

Beautyblender – Beautyblender nude, $20.00 Shop here!

I’m OBSESSED with the beauty blenders! I have the small ones for my concealer, and two of the bigger ones-one for my foundation, and the other for my face powder. Wet them in the sink, then ring them out, and use them to blend in face makeup. They give me a very natural finish. Here are some inside tips and tricks:

  • DO NOT put them directly back into your makeup bag to dry, because they will get super smelly and build up mold (EW, I KNOW!)
  • They sell different beauty blenders for different needs, but I think they’re all the same, so I usually go with the nude one that claims it’s specified for your face (as seen above).

Burberry – Cashmere – Soft Matte Foundation in color Honey No.32, $52.00

I was on the hunt for a good foundation for a while. It is so easy to fall in love with one in the dark bathroom of your house, and then when you go outside your face is orange and looks like it’s about to fall off… I have definitely been guilty of that. Nothing is worse than when your face looks like you’re an Oompa Loompa, or that it’s baking a cake, am I right?! I have this foundation in the color Honey 32, for medium skin with golden undertone. I have been in a committed relationship with this foundation for over a year, and I love it! It’s great for girls who have combination skin, like myself. It is mattifying, but the consistency is liquidy enough to give you a healthy glow. Shop my foundation here!

Laura Mercier – Invisible Loose Setting Powder, $38.00

After I apply my foundation, I usually take my Nars Creamy Concealer and go over and really bad problematic areas once more. Then, to secure perfection, I take my big beauty blender and pat this finishing primer over my face. This keeps my face makeup intact while giving me a mattifying finish. Benefit Cosmetics- Hoola Matte Bronzer, $29.00

IT COSMETICS – Heavenly Skin Bye Bye Pores Powder Brush #701, $58.00

This bronzer was probably one of my first makeup splurges when I was in 7th grade. I highly recommend it as a good go to! The shade somehow magically matches EVERYONE, which means I could also use it all year long… even when I no longer have my summer glow. It is also so hard to find a good bronzer that doesn’t have glitter or shine. I want my face makeup to look as natural as possible. I don’t use it with the brush it comes with because I feel like that would work best to contour, while I use my Hoola for all around bronzer. My IT COSMETICS brush is great for everywhere coverage. *Benefit Cosmetics also comes in a mini size if you want to try it out first!*

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Contour Kit in Light to Medium, $40.00

KAT VON D – Shade + Light Contour Brush, $34.00

This contouring kit is the best because it comes with the best shades. Again, I would rather have a color too light on my skin and have the opportunity to build it up, then it is too pigmented and dark and has it come out looking super blotchy to the point where it can’t be blended. I normally take the ashy brown and use it to contour my cheekbones, jawline, and chin using the angled side of the brush, and I use the more orangy-brown to bronze my forehead using the rounder brush and use the lighter shades as a natural looking highlight on my cheekbones, nose, and upper lip.  Tarte- Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Fearless, $29.00

Sephora Collection – Classic Must Have Angled Blush Brush #50, $28.00

Tarte has the prettiest blushes. I love shades that make you look sun-kissed during the summer, or like you have that cold-burn on your cheeks and nose in the winter. Again, this coral pink is supernatural without being too pigmented or sparkly. This angled brush helps easily sweep the blush down across my cheekbones. Eyeshadow- MAC Cosmetics in the color Concrete, $16.00

Brush- MAC Cosmetics- 217 Blending Brush, $25.00

After applying all of my face makeup, I take my Laura Mercier Finishing Powder, along with my Beauty Blender, and once again dab it all over my face, just to ensure that everything is blended nicely. I definitely do not want to look blotchy. Now, it’s time to move onto eyes. For my everyday makeup, I want to add some definition to my eyes, but still, want to look natural. The tip to doing your makeup well is to make it look like it took no time at all- that you “Woke up like this!- #Flawless!”

I love this brown because first of all, it’s called concrete ;P but second of all, it’s a nice dark neutral. It’s a muted taupe brown, so you can lightly put it on your eye, or you could build it up to create a smokey eye. It’s my go-to shade in my makeup bag because I can dab it on lightly before work or apply it again more heavily if I’m running to a nice dinner afterward. I usually put it lightly on my lid, and then more heavily in the crease for a contoured look. This MAC brush is great for contouring, but you can also use it for shading as well. This duo is a great two-for-one if you don’t want to carry around a lot of brushes and a huge eyeshadow pallet around. Click here for some concrete eyeshade and here for my contour eyeshadow brush!

Kat Von D- Tattoo Liner in the Color Trooper, $20.00

I first tried out this eyeliner when it arrived in my Sephora Playbox, a subscription box I highly recommend. A lot of my friends suggested I tried it, but I never got around to it until it literally showed up at my doorstep. This eyeliner is great because it comes with an easy application tip, which helps you control whether you want a thin line or sexy cat-eye. I have the color “Trooper”, which is a nice satin black, so it’s not too dark. In addition, it not only lasts all day but it is super easy to take off! I hate going to sleep feeling like I’m still wearing my makeup, and then waking up with raccoon eyes. This liner washes off 1-2-3! Click here to shop my liquid eyeliner!

Even though I was already blessed with super long lashes, I love when my lashes are bold in color too. I am not going to lie, I have been pretty obsessed with eyelash extensions recently. I might be crazy, but I think they make my face look more proportional and I love waking up in the morning looking like I’m all ready to go! However, before my addiction, this mascara combo would make my long lashes look luscious and my eyes look wider and brighter.

Each of them has their own unique look. I have the Covergirl in dark brown and put it on when I want more of a natural look. The Too Faced and Benefit mascaras I have in black. Benefit it great for the lower lashes, and also lengthens the top ones really well. The Too Faced mascara is great for volumizing and thickening the lashes. I also felt like it helped my lashes grow even longer! With a combination of the three, everyone always thought I had falsies on, that’s how great these are!

Josie Maran – Argan Lip Sting Plumping Butter in the color Free It, $23.00

To finish off my natural look, I use a light pink lip. This shade reminds me of coming home after a day at the beach and having your lips look like that naturally sun-kissed shade. I like this product so much because it hydrates my lips without being making them feel too moist, looks cakey, or later on flakey. Despite the name, it does not sting my lips at all! Nor do I feel like it plumps it, which could be negative if that’s why you bought the product. However, it lasts a long time, despite my constant chatting, and tastes amazing- just like grapefruit! Click here to taste some grapefruit!

Here you have it, all of my favorite products! Keep in mind, it is also important to take great care of your skin. A lot of work goes into prepping my skin before I use any of this. Let me know if you would like to see my top skincare products by leaving a comment below!
