Union Square Laser Dermatology
The past few months have been hard on us all. I know, for me, it’s been a struggle mentally, physically and emotionally. Being stuck inside all day has made me feel really down about myself. I’ve been struggling with the “quarantine 15”, my roots have been growing in, and from all the snacking and stress, my skin has been freaking out! That’s why I was so excited to go back to Union Square Laser Dermatology when I heard their doors were back open. When I look good, I feel good and I know that Dr. Jennifer Chwalek will make sure I leave Union Square Laser Dermatology feeling confident and like myself again.
Since I know safety is everyone’s priority, especially right now, I want to start off by saying I felt 100 percent safe going into the office. I received a phone call from one of the nurses the day before my visit for a COVID questionnaire screening, and when walking into the building my temperature was taken. Everyone was wearing masks, the office was so clean, and it wasn’t overcrowded at all.
The office itself was beautiful! This was my first time at the new Park View location. It’s located right by The Plaza and it was so gorgeous with a nice scenic view of the city.
Seeing Dr. Chwalek was so refreshing! She remembered everything about my skin and my concerns from my previous visit, even though it’s been months! Before I even got to the office, she gave me recommendations and knew just what to do to spruce me up again. She recommended I try Microneedling this time, as I did the Clear + Brilliant last time, along with some fillers. I was extremely nervous for Microneedling. The thought of a bunch of needles constantly going into my skin really frightened me, but I knew I was in the best hands.
First step was to go into a room and take some “Before” pictures. Immediately after that, I had numbing cream put on my face and sat with it for a little over an hour. During this time, I got to enjoy the gorgeous view and get some work done. Time flew by and I honestly didn’t mind sitting there for that long since I appreciated the usage of the numbing cream. After the quick hour, I then went into the next room and met with Dr. Chwalek. She examined my face and my skin, I told her my concerns, I asked a lot of questions and she reassured me that everything would be okay and totally worth it.
The reason I wanted Microneedling done was because of my acne scarring. To be clear, I don’t usually have terrible skin. Normally, I get one or two problematic pimples during my time of the month. However, I still have a lot of acne scarring and dark spots, predominantly on one side of my face from when I was younger. Additionally, “Maskne” is a real thing. Wearing masks all day while sweating in my makeup has made my chin breakout! Microneedling can help a lot with all of that, as well as it produces collagen which can help with fine lines and wrinkles.
The treatment itself was relatively fast. It was just two passes. Like I said previously, I was really nervous beforehand but it honestly didn’t hurt me at all. Dr. Chwalek was so understanding throughout the entire process. She continuously asked to make sure I was okay, and did everything to ensure it was the most pleasurable experience I could have, using a cooling tool that could help modify any possible burning I would have. I think I flinched the most when it went by my eyes, but more so as a reflex than because of pain. When I looked at myself in the mirror immediately afterwards, my face was red. It looked like I had a sunburn, which was shocking to me because like I said, I really didn’t feel pain.
After Microneedling, Dr. Chwalek used a super cool tool to help find my veins to make sure we were being safe and avoiding them when inserting the fillers. I told her I really wanted my lips done, but would be open to doing whatever she recommended since I loved what she did so much last time. She examined my face and gave me her recommendations. She also did her homework and had looked up some pictures of me before I even came in to let me know what she noticed in my pictures and where she thought I would benefit from most- which I really appreciated. Going the extra mile for me to make sure I left satisfied was so amazing! We decided to do a bit in my cheek bones, chin, and lips. Adding filler to my cheek bones lifts my face and makes my eyes look less droopy, adding filler in my chin made it come forward more which ultimately makes my face look more proportional, and lastly, adding some filler in my lips helps with my profile. I have always been insecure about my nose, and giving me a bigger pout made my nose look smaller. Dr. Chwalek truly is an artist, a sculptor when it comes to injections. I could immediately see a difference. I look less tired and rejuvenated but also extremely natural.
I am obsessed with the results! I was told that the redness from the Microneedling can last a few days, so that’s what I was prepared for. However, by the time I got home, all of the redness went away. The next morning I woke up and there was zero redness, and no noticeable dots from the needle entries at all. The only thing I had for a few days was some swelling from both the Microneedling and Fillers. A nurse called me the next day to follow up, make sure I was okay, see if I had any questions and gave me some advice. The results are overall amazing and I would 100% do it again! I had an amazing experience at Park View Laser Dermatology and feel so confident in my own skin again. It was exactly what I needed! I would highly recommend them and will definitely be going back again!
