It has been almost a year since I did my last skincare routine. I always love to try new products and update my routine accordingly. My skin is constantly changing depending on the time of year, the amount of work I have, the amount of stress I am under, my diet, my social life, etc. Basically, you can probably tell exactly what I am going through just by looking at my skin.
I have combination skin which means my skin looks very oily and shiny from a far but up-close it tends to be dry and “cakey”. I always struggle to find the right products that won’t make me look too greasy or dry me out too much. Combination skin usually occurs when your skin gets too dry, so it naturally creates oil to overcompensate. If you take care of your skin correctly and keep a good balance of the two, you will see drastic changes.
I would say my biggest skin concern is the acne scarring I have on my left cheek. My right side looks a lot clearer than the left. This could be because I tend to sleep on the left more, put my hair on the left side more, or it’s just my anxiety and poor eating which normally shows through on the chin and left side. Besides this, I do get blackheads and the occasional hormonal zit.
My Skincare Routine
The below products are ones I use everyday and have become obsessed with! As you may have noticed, some of these products have been a staple in my last three Skincare blogs, starting from 2017. I have added a couple of new items however, I have been using everything here for at least 2 months so I can make sure I give everything my genuine stamp of approval before suggesting you try them. This was a highly requested blog post, so since so many people requested it, I wanted to cover all my bases. That being said, these products range from every price point, so if you want a suggestion or substitute of a similar product on the market for a different price point, don’t hesitate to comment below and ask! I have also starred my EVERYDAY MUST HAVES, so if you are trying to be a bit more frugal with your money and aren’t planning to splurge on an entire new routine, the “***” items are what I use EVERY SINGLE DAY !
*DISCLOSURE!* I think it is really important for you to know that none of the below brands know I am posting this, so this is all my genuine opinion and things I actually use! That being said, I do happen to have a discount code for skinstore.com since I worked with them in the past. That code is “RACHELH” for 25% off. If you do like any of the products, feel free to check if skinstore.com has them so you can try them at a discounted price.

You may not consider a pillowcase a skincare product, but Slip Silk Pillowcase has been a game changer when it has come to my skin! I tend to get really bad acne on one side of my face, which also happens to be the side that I sleep on. The Slip Silk Pillowcase is scientifically proven to provide anti-aging, anti-sleep crease and anti-bed head benefits. The Silk allows the skin to breathe and glide smoothly, which decreases pressure on creased skin while also ensuring it won’t absorb your face oils, lotions and serums like a normal cotton pillowcase would.
I use these face wipes to take off my makeup before I wash my face.
I use the below eye makeup and face makeup removers to takeoff any excess makeup after washing my face.
Since this is an exfoliator, I only use this to wash my face twice a week, usually at night.
The Tatcha Rice Polish Foaming Enzyme Powder is actually a bit interesting to use. First, I wet my hands and face and then pour the powder into my palm. A little goes a long way! Then you rub your hands together and the powder turns into a foam! I love using foaming cleansers because I feel like they give me a great deep clean and take off all of my makeup. This is my everyday face wash, morning and night.
I use the below after I wash my face to remove any excess dirt or makeup and make sure I am squeaky clean! I also use these throughout the day to make sure my face stays hydrated and my makeup doesn’t look cakey.
I use this everyday right after I was my face and make sure it’s clean! It has helped not only hydrate my skin, but I have definitely noticed a difference with it lightening up my dark spots and acne scars since I have started using it. I use two squirts, twice a day.
This is a face mask that helps to hydrate your skin, but I use it as my everyday moisturizer. For my everyday moisturizer, I apply a light layer after my serum twice a day and found it has made my skin hydrated without making me too oily throughout the day. If you want to use this as a face mask, it is best to use by applying a generous amount and letting it sit and soak into your face or dab it off after 10 minutes. When I use this as a mask, I usually put a fair amount on my face and let it soak in overnight. I wake up and my skin has completely absorbed it and it looks brighter and healthier!
For whenever I have a huge, bad, red zit.
I have been using the below Tweezerman Skin Care tool since I was in 6th grade. Fun fact about me is I am one of those freaks that really enjoys squeezing out blackheads. This tool is great to take out your blackheads at home, or if you have a pimple that is at the surface and ready to pop. When using this, I highly recommend you take a warm shower to open up your pores, then I usually step out of the shower to use and get the gunk out of my face using a mirror, and then go back into the shower to wash my face and make sure I didn’t leave any dirt residue on my skin that might cause an even bigger breakout later.
Dermaflash is an amazing exfoliator! It has blades, so kind of works like a razor, but it vibrates on different settings and helps me get rid of all my dead skin. Additionally, I am actually super hairy, so this helps get rid of my peach fuzz so that my makeup sits nicer on my face. It is also suppose to lighten dark spots and overall help with pigmentation.
The La Mer Intensive Revitalizing Mask is pretty much your basic, green, heavy duty mask for when you have blemishes. I use this when my skin has been acting up and has become zit central.
Summer Fridays R+R mask helps to brighten and hydrate your skin with its natural oils. I put this on my face and let it sit for 10 minutes before dabbing it off. This is great to use before applying your makeup if your skin is very dry.
Summer Fridays Overtime mask is one of my favorite exfoliants and it smells like pumpkins! I massage this onto my face and leave it on for 10 minutes before giving it an extra scrub while rinsing it off.
Patchology Hydrate Sheet Mask is my favorite sheet mask! It is so easy to use and smells amazing! I always bring these on vacation because they are perfect for when your skin has been in the sun and is burnt and dehydrated. When my skin is dry, I will put this on my face for 10 minutes and then when I take it off, massage the excess serum into my skin.
This eye mask is great for hydration! I usually like to put them under the Pathology sheet masks.
The Laniege lip sleeping mask isn’t just for sleeping. I normally wear this during the day too under my lipliner and lipstick.
